⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Loved by over 2000 parents across the US and UK

You're Not Against Screen Time.

You Just Wish It Led To Something.

It's not that they're doing anything wrong. They're not in trouble. They're not being naughty. They're just... consuming.

Video after video. Game after game. An hour disappears, then another.

And somewhere in the back of your mind, a quiet voice says:

"I wish they were making something."

Not because you want to take the screens away.

But because you've seen what lights them up when they actually create something. When they finish a drawing, build something in Minecraft, figure out a puzzle on their own.

That look on their face.

That "look what I did" energy.

You want more of that.

You just haven't known where to start.

  • They watch coding videos for hours but never actually build anything.

  • I want to help them but I don't even know where to point them.

  • I don't understand coding myself — so how am I supposed to guide them?

That's exactly what The Coding Starter Kit is for.

Built by Griffpatch — the world's most-watched block coding educator, with 400K+ YouTube subscribers and millions of views.

For more than ten years, Griffpatch has been teaching children how to turn ideas into real, playable games.

Millions of tutorial views. 400,000+ YouTube subscribers. Teachers using his work in classrooms across the UK, US, and beyond.

But here's what makes his teaching different from everything else you've tried:

Children finish. They stay motivated. They grow in confidence.

The Coding Starter Kit brings that same experience into a structured, beginner-friendly format — designed for children who have never coded before. And for parents who want to understand what's happening, without needing to become technical themselves.

Most coding tutorials are made for people who already know where to start.

They assume your child can troubleshoot when something breaks. They assume a certain baseline.

And when a 7 or 8-year-old hits that first wall — the one nobody warned them about — they don't push through.

They close the laptop. And they don't go back.

The Coding Starter Kit is built differently.

Introducing: The Griffpatch First Build Method

Instead of watching someone else build, your child builds.

Every lesson has one clear purpose. Every step builds on the last. Nothing is assumed. Nothing is skipped.

By the end, they don't just have a finished game.

They have proof — to themselves — that they can do this.

And it runs on block coding. Here's why that matters.

Block coding is not beginner coding. It's smart coding.

Instead of typing out confusing lines of syntax that break the moment something's mistyped, your child snaps visual blocks together — like digital LEGO. Same real programming logic. Same genuine thinking skills. Just without the barrier that makes most kids quit before they ever get started.

Those logic skills? They directly build the foundation for Python, JavaScript — every coding language they'll ever encounter as they grow.

And the platform Scratch® is completely free. No app to buy. No subscription required. Already used in schools across the UK and US. Your child gets access the moment they create their free account.

Scratch® is a trademark of the Scratch Foundation. Griffpatch Academy is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Scratch Foundation.

Here's everything your child gets:

📋 PART 1 — Your Launchpad: Set Up and Ready to Build

3 Lessons · ~30 minutes

Everything they need to create their free account and get ready to build — from scratch, with nothing assumed.

And they won't just finish Part 1 with an account. They'll have already created their first project — a simple story they made themselves.

Their very first taste of what making something feels like.

✅ Step-by-step video lessons

✅ PDF workbook to follow alongside

🐧 PART 2 — Build Your First Game: The Penguin Maze Escape

3 Lessons · ~25 minutes

Your child builds a complete, working maze game — from the very first block to a fully playable, shareable game.

Not a tutorial to copy and forget. A real game they built. That they understand. That they can show someone.

✅ Step-by-step video lessons

✅ PDF workbook to follow alongside

🎮 Delivered on a dedicated learning platform. Instant access. Self-paced.

Your child navigates it independently — or alongside you, if you'd like to share the experience.

Your child logs in and everything they need is already there — the videos, the workbook, the next step clearly laid out. They can work through it independently, or you can follow along together. Either way, it just works.

This isn't just a game they build.

It's the moment they stop wondering where to start.

It's the moment you stop quietly carrying the weight of that interest you didn't know how to support.

It's the moment screen time becomes something you feel proud of — not something you feel guilty about.

One afternoon. One complete game. One child who knows what they're capable of.

🛡️ A complete game — or your money back.

Your child will build a real, working maze game by the end of this kit. No coding experience needed — and no technical knowledge required from you

If they follow the lessons and don't finish with something they're genuinely proud of — we'll refund every penny. No questions asked.

We're that confident this works. Because we've seen it work — over and over again.

Still have a question? Here are the ones we hear most often.

What age is this suitable for?

The Coding Starter Kit is designed for children aged 7–14. The lessons are paced for true beginners - so whether your child is 7 and completely new to coding, or 11 and has dabbled before, they'll be able to follow along and finish with something they're genuinely proud of.

Do I need to sit with them?

You don't need to. The lessons are designed for children to follow independently. That said, many parents have told us they ended up watching alongside their child — and loved it. Either way works perfectly.

What if my child gets stuck?

Every lesson is step-by-step with nothing assumed and nothing skipped. But if they do hit a moment of confusion, the PDF workbook is right there alongside the videos to help them find their place and keep going.

Do I need to buy anything else?

No. We code using the Scratch® platform used by schools in the US and UK. Scratch® is completely free. No app to download, no subscription required. Everything your child needs — the platform, the lessons, the workbook — is either free or included in the kit.

Scratch® is a trademark of the Scratch Foundation. Griffpatch LTD and Griffpatch Academy are not affiliated with or endorsed by Scratch.

How long does it take?

Most children complete both parts in a single afternoon — around 55 minutes of guided lessons in total. Some go faster. Some take their time. It's fully self-paced, so there's no pressure.

What happens after they finish?

That's the best part. Finishing the kit doesn't close a door — it opens one. Your child will have a real, working game and the confidence to keep building. Griffpatch has years of tutorials available, and many children who start here go on to build more complex projects independently.

Is there really a money-back guarantee?

Yes — completely. If your child follows the lessons and doesn't finish with something they're genuinely proud of, we'll refund every penny. No forms, no questions, no fuss.

This is where it starts.

Not another app to download. Not another tutorial that assumes too much and delivers too little.

A step-by-step path, built for true beginners, by the most-followed Scratch educator in the world.

Your child will build something real. Today. For $9.

And the moment they show you what they made?

You'll know it was worth it.

📣 Over 2,000 kids from around the world have already come through the Academy.

Building games. Winning Game Jams. Earning personal recognition from Griffpatch himself. Finding friends who understand them.

I'm an adult and I know how to code in other languages, but I still watch your videos, because having to translate the simple blocks into real code gives me a better understanding of how and why it works, than copying stuff off of Github or Stack Overflow. Thanks for all your help Griffpatch

Your tutorials are fantastic! Although I've been on scratch for over 4 years, your tutorials still teach me new stuff. Your tutorials are really easy for anyone to understand- making the code very customizable! A key part of tutorials is explaining why you need that piece of code, how it works, and the like. Some people will just sit there telling you what to do- but not why it works. Thank you for being such an influential scratcher. Please keep it up! Plus: I'm looking forward to a new tutorial past this- possibly a roguelike? ;)

Amazing video as before in this series. I started doing scratch and then moved on to C# and Unity and even in a more advanced language i still am learning things from you. You Rock Griffpatch ⚡ And out of all the videos uploaded by subscribers in my list i always watch your first!

I love these tutorials! I'm a computer science student now, but my original interest in programming came from Scratch. The way you explain how things work in these videos is amazing, it's done in a way that even beginner Scratchers can pick up on, and I still find myself learning new and better ways to organize my code from them. I love seeing how much Scratch can really do...

Thank you Griffpatch for the tutorials :) you have improved the scratch experience for people and you are the only reason I got into programming! Even if you don't read this, I just want to write a thank you note. love from South Africa

Your Scratch tutorials are unmatched. I think you've found a perfect balance between keeping the videos a certain length and making sure the viewer understands what they're doing. I usually watch the tutorials before following them so I have a general idea of what I'm going to have to do when I eventually follow them. Keep doing what you're doing, because you're doing an incredible job. :)

I think everything about your videos is great. They are the right pace with the right amount of explanation. I wouldn't even mind if they were longer! I always learn the most and retain the information using your tutorials! I always ask myself when I am stuck on a coding problem: what would Griffpatch do!

Just want to say thanks for all the amazing tutorials. My son was off school for a a few days with an illness and we worked together to see who could finish as much of the mario platformer as possible. Loads of fun! He said he's learned way more doing your tutorials than he would have at school lol

Image

Eayuwna (Parent)

Thank you for all your efforts. My 9 year old son is now the king of his code club having followed your tutorial and has started asking me to teach him what sin, cos and tan are - wish me luck ;-) Your content is so well put together thank you so much.

Jean-Baptiste (Parent)

The pace is great. Sometimes we follow along with my son and sometimes we just watch you work your magic together. I can’t overstate the positive impact you have on my 7yo son, he loves you and we bond watching your videos.

Image

Daniel (Parent)

I am loving this series as my daughter is having great fun making gardens and house interiors with the editor.

Image

Steve (Parent)

Pace is great! We pause frequently but sometimes keep up. I’d rather that than too slow. My 11-yo and I are coding the rpg series together (each on separate computers) and it has been great quality time. He has done and loved many of your other videos. When I don’t follow the rationale of the script, I hit the back arrow for 10 or 20 second rewind and listen again after I have the code in place. Of course, my son gets it all the first time, sometimes even predicting what you’ll do next

Image

Mike (Grandparent)

As a retired electrical engineer... who has been coding for the last 50 years I have gone through the learning curve of becoming productive in a new programming language multiple times... My grandson and I have been getting together once or twice a week for over a year to develop our Scratch skills. Your video approach has allowed us to learn more about productive Scratch coding in the last 3 months than all we did in the previous year. You have a gift for explaining complex graphics concepts in terms that your followers can understand and adapt as we experiment with your code. You should feel good knowing how much you are contributing to the positive development of a whole generation of Scratchers.

George (Parent)

I am a Software Developer with over 30 years experience, but my son prefers learning from you :) And he really became very good with your videos and scratch. Thank you for your valuable work.

Image

Calogiga (Parent)

So many many many thanks for sharing your knowledge... Now, as a father, I have a mission to simplify all of this to explain this clearly to my daughter (12 years old) : she's coding and playing with me with Scratch. Many many thanks...

My daughter loves your works. She inspired by you to be a game programmer

Hi Grif, I’m not sure if you will see this, but I wanted to let you know, my son of 9 years old, screamed with excitement about your new series, your videos have inspired and helped him learn scratch and it just blows our minds. Anyways, William say hello and thank you.

And Teachers Alike!

JohnW (Teacher)

Hey Griffpatch, thanks for everything you've done for the Scratch education community! You helped me understand how platformers (among other things) work, and now as an educator, I use your projects and tutorials to help get my students excited about coding too! I'm also able to use what I learned studying your programs around 9 years ago to help teach my students. Thank you so much - your work is incredible!

Thank you for teaching me how to make geometry dash since my students wanted to make one

Image

GeekSHO (Coding Teacher)

This is amazing! Griffpatch, please know how incredible your projects are, but also these video contributions to the community. I teach computer programming, and I often use Scratch for many of my students. These tutorials help me teach students some really cool tricks.

Image

DeanYeats (Teacher)

I appreciate the smaller contained tutorials. I teach groups of students and often see them attempt your longer tutorials and quit a few videos in. Recently I've seen them thrilled to show off the car steering and ball physics ones they've completed. Thank you for all your doing. You are bringing smiles to students and teachers faces worldwide by introducing them to the joys of programming.

Image

Taylor (Teacher)

Great tutorials! I am a teacher using them with my students.

Image

Eden (Coding Teacher)

Hi there, I am a teacher and am using your tutorials with my code club I think the pace of the videos is perfect. The pupils and I follow along pausing when needed and rewinding if necessary. The theory at the beginning along with the additional theory throughout the video is why I use your tutorials, it explains what you are doing in a way that the children understand.

I had taught basic scratch games to my summer school students, they really loved it. I am surprised how far it has come since.

Image

SPHSPHSPH (Coding Teacher)

As a middle school teacher making scratch vids for my 10-13 year old students, it's a pleasure to have high level stuff being made that helps me as a teacher learn how to do things! I feel like there's only 3-5 other people consistently making high level Scratch content for advanced folks. Love it! :D

Pat (Coding Teacher)

I have a student who wants to add robot arms to her robot sprite that rotates like true shoulder and elbow joints (we are studying the human body) how do I help her with this without a whole lot of variables (she is in grade 5 and I am her coding teacher)

@griffpatch I'm a teacher and I'm loving all of this! I am hoping to introduce it to some of my middle school computer students.

This is THE school we deserve

I just joined! :D I love how it is really easy to join!

This is a dream come true!!

I'm so happy that you'll be opening an academy for beginning and vetran coders! I'm so excited to see how awesome this will make people's coding experiences. The whole reason I can program Scratch games like I do now is because of you, griffpatch. And you giving the same opportunities to people in a much better, easier-to-learn-in environment makes me even more excited! Great job, griffpatch, and thank you for your tutorials, devlogs, and now, this academy.

I am nine years old. And I love your channel!I found your channel when I was 7 years old. Since then, I have been coding in scratch. I have made many projects including:Custom 3D Raycasting, RPG with my own custom sprites, A plane shooter game, 2D classic platformer and much more including a few unfinished ones which are still under work. I can't wait to finish them with you and the entire Griffpatch community together!

This is Probably Going to be the Best Way im going to learn how to Scratch Even Better, Cuz i'm still learning scratch but i can find the right videos to help me get started ,some videos show the basis that i know and some videos show the more advanced thing i don't know so . since im still 11 ill try to get my parents to sign up and register on behalf of me

i can't wait to be part of the academy; this sounds epic!

Others: Who is your favourite teacher?

Me: Griffpatch!

This is so exciting!! Can’t wait to join

i had 5 online teachers who taught me game design, yet i found griffpatch and i learned more stuff from his videos more than all of my old teachers combined i love ur videos! :D

Im so exited about this! I love your content, and I've always been hoping for more without just asking for it, and we're all finally getting that! I just have to say thank you griffpatch, without you inspiring thousands of people, alot of us wouldnt be where we are today! (i immediately sighned up, and am very happy to be a founding member :D)

Dude this is like the best thing that could happen to me right now. I’m 14 in an IT class in a trade school and it’s moving very slow, so this will be a great change of pace. Already signed up!

So exciting griffpatch! Love the idea

i’m especially exited for the competitions haha, this is amazing!

just found this im getting very excited in griffpatch academy

OMG IM AM SO HAPPY, ALSO I AM LEARNING MORE SCRATCH EVERY DAY :)))) THANKS YOU GRIFFPATCH :))))))))))

yooo finally kids are gonna learn to be able to make unique things on scratch! thank you griffpatch!

This is awesome! Everyone, griffpatch has been a great and prosperous scratcher, and finally, the moment we've all been waiting for has come!

I just signed up and I am very excited!

I can’t wait I’ve been watching for 2 yrs

YAY! I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!!

I AM gonna join IT (it GoNa Be So Fun)

Griffpatch deserves his own COUNTRY while he's in here with an academy.
